Jesus himself warned us in Matthew 24:36, “But of that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but my father only.” It is a declaration straight from the lips of our Lord. No pastor, prophet, preacher, or teacher has ever been given that date. Yet, in nearly every generation for the last 2,000 years, someone has risen up claiming to know the exact day or year of his

return. These predictions have never been correct, not once. The temptation to set dates often comes

from a sincere place. People look at the signs around them, they connect the dots, and they think they’ve unlocked a hidden mystery. But the timing of the Lord’s return is not our assignment. It is above our spiritual pay grade. Our task is to remain ready not to pinpoint the moment. When we start

making exact predictions, we venture into dangerous territory. We risk leading people astray, damaging their faith when the date comes and goes, and placing our own opinions above God’s clear word. We can and must pay attention to the signs of the times, but observing signs is not the same as setting the calendar. Jesus listed many signs that would precede his return. In Matthew 24:es 6 to8, he said, “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled, for all these

things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Look around and you will see every one of these signs in abundance.
