Russian President Vladimir Putin attended midnight mass at the Church of Nikola, on Lipno island, on Wednesday, as the country celebrates Orthodox Christmas.
Putin has arrived in the region by helicopter and got to the island using a hovercraft.
After the end of the midnight mass, Putin congratulated Russians on Orthodox Christmas.
“The Lord’s love for a person is not about fulfilling all our requests and wishes, but it’s about he allowing us to pray for him and for us in the hope of the best, and this hope – the expectation of a miracle, is sometimes the star itself that illuminates our life path and supports us at the most difficult stages. Happy holidays to you and Merry Christmas,” the Russian leader said.
