Surely they are disqued in vain. He heapeth up riches and knoweth not who shall gather them. There is a sobering weight in the words of David. He is not asking for long life. He is not praying for riches or success. No, he is asking God to remind him how short life is.

Why? Because when we remember how brief our time is on earth, it realigns our priorities.

We stop chasing shadows and start pursuing substance. We begin to walk in the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom. But if people truly understood how fleeting life is, how every breath is a gift and every day a precious opportunity, do you think they would spend the majority of their time watching TV or scrolling on social media? According to Statista, in 2024, over 60% of Americans watched at least 3 hours of television daily.

This equates to more than 1,000 hours a year. Time that could be invested in the Lord, relationships, or their family instead of passive entertainment. And it doesn’t stop there. In our digital world, the average American now spends over 6 hours daily online with approximately 2 hours and 14 minutes of that time dedicated to social media platforms. According to data from Statista and Exploding Topics, that adds up to more than 800 hours a year just on social media. The numbers are even more

alarming for teenagers. According to Demand Sage, US teens spend an average of 4.8 hours per day on social media, with some logging well over 7 hours daily.
