A 15-metre-tall Christmas tree was set up on Berlin’s Pariser Platz on Monday, amid the partial lockdown imposed to slower the spread of COVID-19.
The white fir tree was delivered from Thuringia and will be decorated in the upcoming days.
The traditional tree lighting ceremony will not take place, as many other festivities and traditional Christmas markets have been cancelled because of coronavirus preventive measures.
“We regret the fact that we can not hold a lighting tree ceremony which normally takes place on the first advent,” shared Robert Mosperg from Lekker Energie, the company which installed the tree.
Luisa, a Berlin resident, noted that “the anticipation is a bit contained in these coronavirus times, so this is really good to see that the tradition to put a tree is kept.”
