Chile: Santiago 19th century church steeple collapses following fire
The steeple of Santiago’s 19th-century church collapsed following the fire which started amid an anti-government protest on Sunday.
Parroquia de la Asuncion church, which was reportedly built in 1876, was seen surrounded by locals, protesters, and firefighters as the fire was raging from its steeple, with smoke seen filling the area.
People were heard cheering as the spire collapsed, leaving burning debris scattered on the street.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown, with arson being reported by local media to be one of the likely causes.
